What are Essential Oils

Essential oils are not the same as the edible oils made from nuts and vegetables that we use to cook or for massage. In fact, they are not oils at all, they are the volatile and fragrant part of the plant, which is found in small delicate sacs on the surface of the leaves or on the bark, flowers, fruit peels or seeds.


When the volatile oil is extracted through steam distillation, the resulting substance is the concentrated intelligence of the healing force of the plant, 75 to 100 times more powerful than the dried herbs. Because the human body has molecular structures that correspond to those of the oils, the intelligence of the plants can be used for our healing.


Essential oils are used in a wide range of forms, from massages, inhalation to baths and for lotions and facials - from perfume to shampoos and soaps, and can be use to make or improve household cleaning products.


Applied to the skin, they enter the bloodstream and, depending on the chemistry of each oil, the effect can be soothing and refreshing, warm or invigorating.


When we inhale, the neuronal impulses go directly to the limbic system. The limbic system connects to all other parts of the brain and in particular to the thalamus and hypothalamus, from where our whole endocrine system is controlled. Smells can affect memory, emotions and self-expression. They also affect our entire internal environment, especially the adrenal and sexual systems. This is why a scent can stimulate clear thinking or be euphoric or aphrodisiac.


Some essential oils are antiseptic, antiviral and anti-inflammatory and can prevent or help fight infections, kill bacteria or inhibit their growth, can reduce inflammation, relieve pain and increase the ability of the skin to rejuvenate. During the cold season, the inhalation of essential oils can have a direct impact on the health of the respiratory organs.They have proven to be good for treating burns, headaches, asthma, arthritis and insomnia. Some essential oils can be stimulant, relaxing, euphoric and can help reduce stress, promote energy and alertness, and improve spiritual well-being.
